After the Grand Prix Herning and the Fyn Rundt-Tour of Funen last week, the Scandinavian race calendar continued today with the first Elite race of the season in Norwegian territory, the GP Sundvolden, which saw the star of Andreas Leknessund shine.
The rider from Tromsø, without a victory since June 2024, imposed himself solo at the finish line of Krokkleiva (a 4.5-kilometer climb at an average gradient of 7.5%) after a breakaway of about 50 kilometers that allowed him to anticipate the rest of the contenders. These were then thinned out along the final climb and were ultimately sprinted by Leknessund's teammate Johannes Kulset, who, with his 2nd place 16" behind the day's winner, made the day even sweeter for Uno-X Mobility.
Third, behind the red-orange duo, was Danish rider Niklas Larsen from BHS-PL Beton Bornholm (who was also part of the Norwegian team until last year), while Mattia Gaffuri of Swatt Club, with 6th place 29" behind Leknessund, was the best Italian at the end of the race, obtaining another good result after his 9th place in The Traka 200 gravel event seven days ago.
For him, as essentially for all protagonists of today's 1.2 category classic, there will be another opportunity tomorrow in the Ringerike GP, a one-day race 171 kilometers long (also 1.2 category) that will develop around the town of Hønefoss.
