
The seventh edition of the National Brescian Challenge "Giancarlo Otelli", organized by the Gruppo sportivo Aspiratori Otelli Alchem CWC, reserved for the male Juniors category, is approaching and is scheduled for Sunday in Sarezzo (Brescia).
The program will open in the morning with the first of two half-stages, the fifth Trofeo Bigmat Maflan, a 90-kilometer and 650-meter race with start and finish in Ponte Zanano di Sarezzo in front of the Aspiratori Otelli company facility. The route is the classic one from previous editions. The riders will head towards Gardone Val Trompia before crossing Marcheno and Brozzo. After 7.5 kilometers of racing, they will face the first of four Mountain Grand Prix at Lodrino (736 meters altitude). Subsequently, along the downhill section Casto-Piani-Nozza-Barghe, they will reach the second climb, that of Preseglie (386 meters altitude), touched after just over 40 kilometers of racing and repeated a second time at kilometer 51.9 after passing through Pregastine, Sabbio Chiese and Barghe. For the protagonists, there will be no respite because after just over 10 kilometers there will be the last Mountain Grand Prix, the Colle Sant'Eusebio (574 meters), while in the finale they will descend towards Caino, Nave, Concesio and then head to Ponte Zanano for the finish.
In the afternoon, space for the time trial "Remembering Giancarlo", the final stage of the Challenge where the first twenty classified from the morning's Trofeo Bigmat Maflan will participate by right, with the first 10 teams having at least one athlete classified in the top 20 being able to decide to start an additional athlete among those who completed the morning's race.
The first start will be scheduled for 3:30 PM from via Seradello in Ponte Zanano in front of the Bigmat Maflan company facility, with 5 kilometers and 600 meters of time trial that will conclude (after passing through Gombio and Pina locations) with the finish in via Castignidolo in Polaveno (Brescia) after the last 3 kilometers with 150 meters of positive elevation gain, except for the final 250 meters which are mostly flat.
The scores from the two stages will form the final ranking of the National Brescian Challenge "Giancarlo Otelli" and will decide the successor in the winner's roll of the 2024 champion, Trentino Elia Andreaus (Team Giorgi). Also racing will be the home team Aspiratori Otelli Alchem CWC.
Four jerseys are up for grabs, with the provisional jerseys that will also be worn at the end of the line race, while the definitive ones will be assigned after the afternoon's time trial.
- pink jersey for the general points classification (FPM)
- yellow jersey for the Mountain Grand Prix classification (Manelli)
- green jersey for the first Brescian (Alchem)
- red jersey for the best young rider (Aspiratori Otelli).
