Accessibility and inclusion combined with leisure and sport: the Valchiavenna Gravel Escape, scheduled for May 10th and 11th, is much more than a bike ride on the dirt roads of Valchiavenna - it's a solidarity event that unites and invites reflection. This is evidenced by the attention to route accessibility and the presence of associations with their awareness activities on Saturday, May 10th. Starting with Admo Lombardia, which strongly supports the importance of sport as a fundamental ally for physical and mental health: practicing sports regularly helps maintain the body in optimal condition, a crucial requirement for being suitable and ready donors. "We deeply believe that every act of solidarity can save a life - states President Giuseppe Saponara - Registering as a donor means performing an act of courage and responsibility: giving a concrete possibility of healing to those fighting serious blood diseases. It's a simple yet extraordinary gesture that can transform hope into reality".
Along with Admo, the Aido group of Samolaco, active for years in raising awareness about organ donation, and the Chiavenna section of Avis, for blood donation - one of the largest in the area - will be present. Volunteers from both associations will provide information on how to join and donate hope and save lives.
On the topic of route and location accessibility, an area where Valchiavenna municipalities are committed, two volunteer associations, "Il mondo che vorrei" and "Il Quadrifoglio Valchiavenna" will offer the opportunity to try e-bikes for people with disabilities or reduced motor skills. The bicycle proves to be a means of transportation and recreation for everyone: various models will be available, including wheelchair bikes designed for pedaling with children and adults who cannot do so independently, duo bike tandems, and orthros tandems with two side-by-side seats. "We want May 10th to become an inclusive event where everyone can experience the joy of cycling," the two associations state. Pintalpina, with its craft beers, will also promote the value of inclusion through its years-long experience of creating a work environment where young people with disabilities can have an active role.
Among Saturday's protagonists is also Basso, which will be present with a selection of test bike models, accompanied by the Enough Cycling Collective team, who will support participants during bike tests with their technical support and experience. Basso's participation, together with the Enough team's presence, will offer visitors a unique opportunity to experience an immersive and high-level cycling experience.
The program for Saturday, May 10th, in addition to the village opening in Piazza Bertacchi from 10 am to 7 pm, includes at 9 pm at the Victoria Cinema Theater, with free entry, the screening of the documentary "A Journey from the Furthest Commune from the Sea (Montespluga) to the Sea (Ventimiglia)", by Elia Guanella and Nicola Ciapponi. On Sunday, May 11th, the village will open at 7:30 am for registrations, which will close at 8:30 am, in time for the French-style start, with the group departure scheduled for 9 am. The event offers participants the opportunity to choose between three distances, 50, 80, and 100 kilometers, and to cover them on their preferred two-wheeler, gravel, mountain bike, or e-bike. From 12:30 pm, a Pasta party prepared by Caffè Svizzero and Il Locale, in collaboration with Del Zoppo Bresaole, Galletto Vallespluga and Pastificio Moro, Acqua Frisia, NIMS and Pintalpina, will await the cyclists.
All information can be found on the website gravelescape.it, where online registration is also possible until May 8th, while the following day a registration point will be active inside the village. The 2025 edition sees Banca Popolare di Sondrio as the title sponsor.
