Yesterday in Milan, in the presence of League associates, the annual assembly of the Professional Cycling League summarized the first year of activity and opened a dynamic and participatory discussion on the future developments of the Italian movement.
In his speech, President Roberto Pella, at the table with Vice Presidents Giuseppe Saronni, Roberto Ciambetti and Secretary Stefano Piccolo, outlined the balance of a year of intense activity that has positioned the League increasingly at the center of the institutional, territorial, sports and social fabric of the country.
Pella wanted to emphasize the importance of associative cohesion and the strength that the newly created Italian Cup of the Regions project has given to all the races involved. Among these, women's races are taking on particular relevance, even at an international level, thanks to the innovative choice of comparing prize money for athletes to the Pro Series category, and the final prize pool of the Italian Cup.
"We have forged strategic alliances with fundamental players in the Country system such as the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, Unioncamere and UNPLI. These are pillars that give us authority and stability," Pella declared, announcing the imminent signing of new protocols with the National Association of Italian Municipalities and the Union of Italian Provinces, "decisive partners for the development of sports activities, culture, safety and promotion of territories".
Particular attention will be paid to enhancing Municipalities through dedicated television content - real "postcards" aired during races - and the crucial issue of road safety, also in light of the recent amendment to Article 9 of the Highway Code made possible by the approval of the Pella Law on organizational simplification and race authorization. "I thank Prefects Sgalla and Amoroso for the support provided throughout the process: with Regions, Municipalities and Provinces we will continue to work for increasingly safe events," he added.
Among the projects in the pipeline, the creation of events such as the Tour of Magna Graecia and the Tour of Sardinia, designed to connect territories and cultures, even beyond Italian borders. "We want to open up to the world, involving embassies and new markets, to attract sponsors and opportunities. Our country has great attractive potential and we must commit to ensuring that it becomes the hub of international cycling again".
The assembly continued with a series of interventions by associates and the conclusions of FCI President, Cordiano Dagnoni. "We are part of the same team, my renewed commitment is towards the growth of the movement. The dynamism of the League also goes in this direction and I hope it can increasingly contribute to achieving common goals".
"This is a team game," Pella concluded, thanking the board, organizers, teams, athletes, commissions, RAI for television coverage, and all supporting partners.
