After the monument races in Northern Europe and with Liège-Bastogne-Liège closing the program, let's review the current ranking of the 52nd Golden Lily, the award for the best Italian athlete of the season based on results achieved, sponsored by the Tuscany Region, the Tuscany Group of Sports Journalists of USSI chaired by Franco Morabito and the Metropolitan City of Florence. Organized by Golden Lily SSSDRL presided over by Lorenzo Carmagnini and his father Saverio, it is the only award in Italy with this format, which has been running since 1974, with the first edition won by Francesco Moser, who is also the most victorious with nine editions, followed by Vincenzo Nibali with six.
Current leader of the ranking at the end of April is Filippo Ganna, winner of the Golden Lily in 2020 and 2023 with 160 points, followed by Jonathan Milan with 145, and Giulio Ciccone with 130, thanks to recent results including second place behind superstar Tadej Pogacar at the Liège finish line. Colnaghi and Scaroni follow with 70 points and Velasco with 65. For the 2025 edition, various other recognitions are planned in memory of Gino Bartali, Alfredo Martini, Gastone Nencini and Franco Ballerini, along with a special Pink Lily for an athlete who will distinguish themselves during the season. This year, there are a couple of important and prestigious novelties, which will be officially unveiled in the coming weeks alongside the Golden Lily, whose final ceremony will take place as always with a Grand Gala in November at the Carmagnini restaurant of the '500 in Pontenuovo di Calenzano. Last year, the award was given to Tuscan Alberto Bettiol.
