Another fall for Jonas Vingegaard! The Danish Visma Lease a Bike rider crashed during today's Paris-Nice stage and immediately appeared to be in pain. Eleven months after the terrible accident in the Basque Country, with lung perforation, collarbone and rib fractures, Vingegaard is once again dealing with an incident.
Vingegaard's physique seems fragile, and he was wearing the leader's jersey in Paris-Nice: his teammate Jorgenson saw him already on the ground and at the finish line, the new race leader with a 22" advantage over Vingegaard, explained: "I saw him stop by the roadside with blood on his face. Later he came to me and said his hand was really, really hurting and he was having difficulty braking and holding the handlebars. He was in a lot of pain. Uphill, he wasn't comfortable battling for position, so he positioned himself at the back of the group towards the finish. He wanted to do his best, and I'm proud of what he did. He gave me the green light, told me I should try to win. So I did, I came second and kept the jersey in the team".
Frans Maassen, the Dutch team's sports director, explains: "Jonas was stunned after the accident, he had a sense of dizziness that then disappeared. He was taken to the hospital by the team, and only after tests will it be communicated if he will be at the start tomorrow".
