Chiara Consonni and Vittoria Guazzini once again prove their worth, adding a silver medal in the madison at the European Championships in Heusden-Zolder to their personal collection. The Italian duo, Olympic champions in the discipline, rode an attacking race and were in contention for gold until 200 meters from the finish, when the Dutch riders Van Belle and Van der Duin shifted into high gear and won the final sprint, legitimizing their victory and taking revenge on the Italians who had beaten them in Paris.

For Consonni and Guazzini, the only possibility to overturn the standings was to win the final sprint, which awarded double points, and hope that another pair would put their wheel in front of the Dutch: this did not happen, but the Italian women still deserve a big round of applause. Completing the podium in third place were the French pair Berteau and Borras.

WOMEN'S KEIRIN. Fifth place for Miriam Vece, who was unable to repeat her excellent semi-final performance in the final. The title went to Dutch rider Steffie Van der Peet, ahead of British rider Edmunds and another Dutch rider Hettie Van de Wouw. The journey ended in the repechage for the very young Beatrice Bertolini.

MEN'S KEIRIN. The two Italian riders made their mark with a convincing tournament. Mattia Predomo finished twelfth, sixth in the B final. Stefano Moro reached the final and narrowly missed the podium in a race literally dominated by Harrie Lavreysen, ahead of German Dornbach and Frenchman Derache.

MEN'S MADISON. The final European title in this Heusden-Zolder event was won by Dutch riders Yanne Dorenbos and Vincent Hoppezak, who dominated the event ahead of the Portuguese twins Ivo and Rui Oliveira and the German pair Kluge and Teutenberg. Tenth place for the young Italian pair Juan David Sierra and Davide Stella, who secured a couple of winning sprints and then tried to defend themselves in a grueling 50 km race, flying at over 58 km/h average speed.
