MASTER CROSS. FILIPPO FONTANA AND CARLOTTA BORELLO SIGN THE FINAL STAGE

Chainsaws. Trumpets. Stadium-like cheering. Sun and blue sky. All this was the 11th San Fior Municipality Trophy, 5th Adriano Lot Memorial, final stage of the Selle SMP Master Cross and Italian Society Championship. The protagonist of this wonderful cyclocross day was the Marca Trevigiana, more precisely Castello Roganzuolo. The organizational direction was perfectly handled by the Sanfiorese Sports Society, an association founded in the distant 1945 and chaired by San Fior mayor Gastone Martorel.
The race location, known to all cyclocross enthusiasts, was the one that hosted the Italian Youth Championships of this discipline in January 2023, a national event that was a huge success and remained in the hearts of all cycling fans who today did not disappoint. The famous, characteristic, and selective ramps among the olive trees of the Monumental Church of Saints Peter and Paul were once again the theater of a national-level competition. The track, measuring 2.8 kilometers, was even harder and more technical than in past editions.
The queen race reserved for the Open male category offered two absolute protagonists. The national champion Filippo Fontana and Jakob Dorigoni immediately demonstrated their clear superiority. For several laps, the Treviso native and the South Tyrolean rode together at the front. In the second part of the race, the local favorite put on the turn signal and took off, gathering the cheers of the many fans present. Filippo Fontana (C.S. Carabinieri) crossed the finish line with a 16-second margin over Jakob Dorigoni (Torpado Kenda), both multiple Italian champions of this discipline. The other protagonists arrived at the finish line more than 2 minutes behind. The young Umbrian Samuele Scappini (Team Cingolani) finished in third place. Fourth was the Verona native Ettore Prà (Hellas Monteforte), author of an excellent start. Fifth place went to the Treviso native Lorenzo De Longhi, standard-bearer of S.S. Sanfiorese. The final classification of the Selle SMP Master Cross was won by the experienced Valtellina native Gioele Bertolini (Fas Airport Guerciotti), absent today.
Carlotta Borello was the absolute master of the Open female race and the final classification of the Selle SMP Master Cross. The Piedmontese from Team Cingolani once again demonstrated her superiority. From the first to the last lap, she raced alone. Behind her, competing for second place were the experienced Rebecca Gariboldi (Ale Cycling Team) and the young local Treviso favorite, first-year junior, Giorgia Pellizotti. It was precisely the Sanfiorese representative who secured the runner-up spot and the final category Master Cross classification.
The juniors gave life to an exciting challenge. The Friulian Ettore Fabbro and Filippo Grigolini challenged each other throughout the race with attacks and counterattacks. A few meters from the finish straight, young Filippo Grigolini of Team Cingolani, Italian champion right here in Castello Roganzuolo in 2023, managed to put a few precious meters between himself and his opponent and raise his arms to the sky. Behind him, Ettore Fabbro (DP66). The third step of the podium was extremely uncertain. Pietro Deon prevailed to the delight of the entire Sanfiorese organizing team. Fourth and fifth places went respectively to Giacomo Serangeli (DP66) and Pietro Duregon (San Vendemiano). Thanks to today's winning move, Filippo Grigolini conquered the final Selle SMP Master Cross classification.
The competitions reserved for youth categories were simply thrilling. Among the beginners, another demonstration of strength by the Varese native Luca Ferro (Bustese Olonia). In the women's field, the national champion Irene Righetto (Team Velociraptors) was once again in command from the first to the last lap.
The race reserved for first-year students also had a standout performer. The Friulian Alessio Borile (DP66) repeatedly asked the public to cheer him on and pocketed an apparently easy victory. Among the second-year boys, it was a double victory for the Cingolani twins. European champion Tommaso preceded Filippo and especially inflicted abysmal gaps on everyone.
Another success for student Nicole Righetto. The Venetian, Italian champion, preceded Brescian Mariachiara Signorelli (Santa Cruz Rockshox).
Among the Masters, victories went to Antonio Macculi (Team Cingolani) in Fascia 1, Giampietro Dapretto (Federclubtrieste) in Fascia 2, Graziano Bonalda (Alfredo Binda) in Fascia 3, Corrado Cottin (Team Benato) in Fascia 4, and Chiara Selva (Spezzotto) among the Masterwoman.
