Christmas holidays are perhaps the last moment of true relaxation before diving headfirst into the 2025 season. Competitions are still far away, but for many, training, planning, and goals have already begun. Silvia Persico will kick off her third season with UAE ADQ in Spain at the end of January and is enjoying some time with her family. In Alzano Lombardo, family reunions are a must, and before Christmas, there's Christmas Eve with the classic big dinner that this year will have a slightly different flavor. "
Christmas Eve has always been a tradition for my entire family, we usually went to my grandmother's where we would all gather. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away in the spring, this will be the first year without her, and it will be strange because things will change. However, we wanted to keep the tradition alive, we'll simply change location and move to my parents' house where we'll exchange gifts.
Then on December 25th, lunch together," Silvia tells us with a hint of emotion, reserving a thought for her grandmother to whom she was deeply attached. Actually, Silvia's Christmas had already changed significantly last year. Usually, the cyclist from Bergamo was involved in cyclocross, which often kept her away from home, but for the second consecutive season, she has decided to set aside mud competitions.
"I admit that unfortunately, due to cyclocross, I missed various Christmas lunches, but I can say I had a justification. This time we'll finally all be together, we're a large family, and it'll be nice to reunite. We don't have anything particular in mind, simply spending time together. I definitely won't ride my bike on Christmas, it's a rule I've set for myself. On the 24th, I can do all the training you want, but on December 25th, the only place for my bike is on the bike stand."
Silvia continues, reiterating the absolute ban on cycling on Christmas Day, a way to disconnect from everything and fully enjoy her family. January 1st will also be a holiday, no bike but still plenty of time with family before starting preparation again. 2025 presents itself to Silvia as a year of redemption, a season to finally find herself without any obstacles. So, amid stories of traditions and family lunches, we take the opportunity to ask her about her letter to Santa Claus in view of the new year. "I hope for a 2025 better than 2024, where I'd say I've been through enough – she tells us – I would like to regain that confidence in my abilities that has been missing for a long time and finally race peacefully."
