From Spain, precisely from Diario AS, comes a market bombshell: the now former MotoGP rider Aleix Espargaró is about to sign a contract with Lidl-Trek. Yes, certainly, as a Trek ambassador. "Aleix is here with us in training - says Lidl Trek team principal Luca Guercilena to tuttobiciweb - because he has always been a huge cycling enthusiast and will become our testimonial from next year, but it's clear that he won't sign any professional contract with us, only as a testimonial and most likely will race some gravel events".
The 35-year-old Spaniard, always a great bicycle enthusiast, friend and training partner of many Iberian professionals, ended his career in MotoGP this year (in 2024 he was racing with Aprilia), but signed as a Honda test rider for the 2025 season. The new role as ambassador fits perfectly with a parallel activity.
Espargaró has always said he has the numbers to compete at high levels in cycling, which is true as he already has some high-level experience, having raced the Cape Epic and other MTB events. These days he is in training in southern Spain with the team captained by Mads Pedersen and Jonathan Milan.
