CONI MERITS, SILVER STAR FOR SPORTING MERIT AWARDED TO DOMENICO DE LILLO

Within the framework of the rich awards ceremony for the CONI MILAN Sports Merits on the evening of Monday, December 9th, 2024, at the Gaber Auditorium of the Regional Council in the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan, Domenico De Lillo - multi-titled track champion in his prime in the spectacular middle-distance specialty, later continued as an appreciated mechanical vehicle operator, track technician where he guided Bruno Vicino to two world titles and another with Roberto Dotti - received from Cordiano Dagnoni, FCI president and De Lillo's colleague in the role of "manetta", (in Milanese cycling jargon, the mechanical vehicle operator of middle-distance), just like his father Mario and brother Christian, the Silver Star for Sports Merit.
De Lillo was also a sports director in various excellent amateur teams and, especially, in the Nuova Baggio San Siro of patron Alcide Cerato and then moved to the professional role following his favorite, the talented Moreno Argentin, and subsequently joining first Sammontana and then Bianchi Gewiss.
Long-time member of the Technical Commission of the Professional Cycling League, he also collaborated for years with the Giro d'Italia, in the race area in the VIP guest vehicle section, paired with his friend and companion, a true Milanese, Marino Vigna, gold medalist in team pursuit at the Rome Olympics.
Regarding his Milanese origins, De Lillo received in 2015 the highly coveted recognition from the municipality of Milan, the Ambrogino d'Oro, even though his father, an appreciated masseur and prominent figure in the frequent, indeed very frequent meetings at the Vigorelli Velodrome, was of Apulian birth.
Through marriage to his wife Rosy, Nico De Lillo also acquired Swiss citizenship, and in the environment, when simply saying "the Swiss", everyone knows who is being referred to.
He was accompanied to the scenic Gaber Auditorium by his wife, daughters, and nephew Matteo, who also attempted a cycling career but quickly, despite the "uncle's" advice (as he was invited by his grandfather to be identified in the environment), left the pedals for a steering wheel at the Giro d'Italia, always in the race hospitality area. The ceremony saw a very high number of athletes and various personalities parade on stage, with the active presence of Regional CONI President Marco Riva, Deputy Vice President Claudio Maria Pedrazzini, Vice President Carola Mangiarotti, and other high-profile names in sports, including several representatives of the national sports institution such as Claudia Giordani, Deputy President of National CONI.
Next milestone for De Lillo, after the bronze and silver of this recognition, he does not hide his aim to conquer the gold. Best wishes.
