SARDINIA AWAITS THE STARS OF CYCLOCROSS: THE WORLD CUP IS ON DECEMBER 8TH

On Sunday, in Antwerp, Belgium, the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup 2024-2025 will start, and with it, the great interpreters of the discipline will begin to warm up for a winter marked by mud, meadows, and... sand. The third stage of the World Cup, organized by Flanders Classics, will indeed land on one of Italy's most fascinating beaches, that of Is Arutas, in Cabras, Sardinia. The event, reserved for Women and Men Elite categories, is set for December 8th and will be set up thanks to the collaboration between the Sardinian company Crazy Wheels, PP Sport Events and the Municipality of Cabras, with the valuable contribution of the Tourism Department of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and the Mont'e Prama Foundation, in collaboration with the Marine Protected Area of Penisola del Sinis.
The Is Arutas beach, located along the western coast of Sardinia, in the territory of Cabras (province of Oristano), is characterized by a shoreline composed of colored quartz grains, ranging from white to pink and light green, similar to rice grains, giving it an unmistakable appearance in a wild natural context devoid of invasive constructions.
The Women Elite, who will start at 13:40, and the Men Elite, at 15:10, will tackle a circuit of about 3 km that includes sand, grass, small hills, and a finish on an asphalt avenue surrounded by palm trees. All with an exceptional backdrop, the turquoise color of the Mediterranean Sea.
"Every winter the Cyclo-cross World Cup sets course for a new destination, and we are particularly happy that this year it is Cabras, in Sardinia" - said Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of Flanders Classics -. "This is an important further step towards the internationalization of this discipline. The course, compared to all other stages, will be unique, because it is drawn along the seashore. We can't wait to come to Is Arutas on December 8th, exactly a week after the second stage in Dublin and just before the intense Christmas period".
"We have been working for several weeks to build the course" - added Luca Massa, President of Crazy Wheels -. "The event will take place in a wonderful area, and for this, I particularly want to thank the Municipality of Cabras and the Sardinia Region for the support they are giving us. Our goal, in addition to allowing young people to see this discipline and the great champions up close, is to demonstrate how Sardinia can be a destination for cycle tourism and training even at this time of year. Having 20 degrees in December is a luxury that few areas of Europe can boast".
"After the Gravel European Championship in Asiago, we are particularly happy to collaborate again with Flanders Classics, with whom an excellent synergy is emerging" - was the comment of Filippo Pozzato, CEO of PP Sport Events -. "This time we have moved to an area of Italy that is new to us, but I can guarantee is of extraordinary beauty. Seeing the greats of cyclocross by the Mediterranean, on the prestigious sand of Is Arutas, will truly be an unmissable spectacle. We know that logistically it is not an easy transfer for teams and fans, but the hope is that the uniqueness and charm of this event can still push many enthusiasts to the coasts of Sardinia, to spend a different and exciting weekend".
On the official event website, tickets are already on sale to access the course (15€) and admire the cyclocross champions up close.
