She was one of the most anticipated athletes, but unfortunately will not take part in the fourth edition of the Tour de Romandie Féminin, which will take place over three stages from August 15 to 17. Demi Vollering, winner in 2023 and second last year, must withdraw from the Swiss competition due to illness: this was confirmed by the organizers. The Dutchwoman from FDJ Suez, second-placed in the recent Tour de France Femmes, will be replaced by French national champion Juliette Labous.
Marlen Reusser will also be missing who, after the complicated final stages of the Giro d'Italia Women and her withdrawal in the first stage of the Tour de France, is not yet in the best condition to face a race. "I have just started training again, and participating in the Tour de Romandie would not be the best thing in view of upcoming commitments. Now I am completely focused on the World Championships in Rwanda," wrote the 33-year-old Swiss athlete from Movistar, winner of the 2025 Tour de Suisse, on her social media profiles.
We will have to wait a few more hours to know the complete list of participants, but the presence of Polish champion Kasia Niewiadoma, third at the Tour de France, is practically certain. Alongside the 30-year-old CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto rider will be other Tour survivors like Ricarda Bauernfeind and Neve Bradbury, as well as Antonia Niedermaier, the best young rider of the Giro d'Italia Women.
From the pink race, we will also see Steffi Hählerlin, who will pedal on home roads alongside Mischa Bredewold, the designated captain of SD Worx Protime, in which however we will not see world champion Lotte Kopecky, winner of the race in the past season.
Gaia Realini returns to the Tour de Romandie after last year's third place, and with her, Lidl Trek will also field Niamh Fisher-Black, fifth-placed at the Tour, and Anna Henderson, winner of the Aprica stage at the Giro. The UAE Team ADQ presents itself in the Confederation with a tricolor trident formed by Persico, Magnaldi and Marturano, also counting on the talent of the 22-year-old Catalan Paula Blasi.
Eleonora Ciabocco and Marta Cavalli will lead a Picnic PostNL that will also field the winner of the Young Riders classification at the Tour de France Femmes, Nienke Vinke. Speaking of young riders, the Visma Lease a Bike will present itself at the start with a very young lineup (average age 22 years) featuring the talented Slovak champion Viktória Chladoňová.
The AG Insurance - Soudal Team relies on the experience of Ashleigh Moolman. With the 39-year-old from Pretoria will race Sarah Gigante, Uršká Žigart, and the Spanish time trial champion Mireia Benito. Talking about Spain, Mavi Garcia will lead the Liv AlUla Jayco.
OTHER ITALIANS. In addition to the aforementioned compatriots at the Tour de Romandie, we should see Pirrone, Ruffilli, and Giuliani in the Swiss-based Roland Le Dévoluy formation; Sara Casasola with Fenix and Letizia Borghesi among the ranks of EF Education-Oatly.
THE STAGES. Three stages are planned for a total of 250 kilometers. The race will start on Ferragosto with a short individual time trial designed with a start from Huémoz to Villars-sur-Ollon; it will continue on Saturday with the uphill finish at La Tzoumaz to end with the final stage on Sunday that will challenge the athletes on the climbs around Aigle.
THE GPS MONITORING SYSTEM FOR SAFETY. The International Cycling Union has announced that during the race, a GPS tracking system will be used for the safety of the athletes. In the statement published on the institutional website of the world cycling governing body, it reads: "The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), in collaboration with the Tour de Romandie Féminin and the participating teams, will test a GPS geolocation system for the safety of cyclists during the 2025 edition of this stage race registered in the UCI Women's WorldTour (15-17 August). The initiative, which is part of the ongoing efforts of UCI and SafeR to increase the safety of cyclists in professional road cycling, will see one cyclist per team equipped with a GPS location device. This same technology will be implemented at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali (Rwanda), where all riders will be equipped with it".
