After the start of the Giro d'Italia in 2005 and the Giro d'Italia Women in 2010, Albese Con Cassano has once again hosted a pink race, and today in this Como town we saw enthusiasts, children, and ordinary people applauding the champions of the Giro Next Gen. The Mayor of Albese with Cassano, Alberto Gaffuri, after waving the start of the third stage, shared his emotions with tuttobiciweb microphones. "For all of us, today's start in Albese represented a beautiful moment for which I will never stop thanking Paolo Frigerio and the organizers who wanted to give us the opportunity to have the Giro d'Italia Next Gen caravan on our roads," the mayor declared.
He then continued, emphasizing how the race's start was also an opportunity for remembrance: "Today we remembered our champions. Fabio Casartelli, Olympic champion in Barcelona; Paolo Pedretti, Olympic champion in 1932, and Oreste Magni, a professional cyclist for years who lived here and always kept Albese with Cassano in his heart."
The Como town and cycling form an important bond that could be further strengthened in the future. "The emotions we experienced today were truly intense. It would be nice to think about bringing the Giro Next Gen back here, or perhaps something even more. We can't do it alone; we need an entire territory working in synergy. It could be a beautiful experience, so why not try? Or at least think about it."
