Lorenzo Finn takes a decisive step forward in his career: after two years full of successes with the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe Rookies, the nineteen-year-old Italian will join the WorldTeam starting from the 2027 season. Having previously raced for team grenke – Auto Eder, he becomes the first rider ever to complete the entire pathway within the team's development structure.
In the past season, Lorenzo spent almost half of his racing days alongside professionals, gradually getting accustomed to the higher level that awaits him in the future in WorldTour races. This gradual approach to his growth journey will continue even after his category change.
“Developing our riders is a fundamental pillar of Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe's strategy - explains Zak Dempster, Chief of Sports -. Our goal is to offer young athletes a clear pathway to the WorldTour. Lorenzo is the first to have followed this path, starting from the youth categories. It's confirmation that our model works. At the same time, we're sending an unmistakable message to the best young talents around the world: if you want to grow in the long term, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe is the ideal environment to do so.”
Already world champion among juniors and Under 23s, this year Lorenzo made history by becoming the first rider, after 53 years, to win both the Giro Next Gen and the Tour de l’Avenir in the same season. He represents the new generation of stage race riders. At the Sibiu Tour, the young talent from Genoa also proved he is already capable of winning at Elite level, claiming two stage victories and the overall classification.
Nevertheless, his first season among the professionals will be dedicated primarily to continuing his maturation process. «Becoming a professional cyclist is a dream that's coming true. You have to stop for a moment and think: I haven't reached my final goal yet, but I made it, I'm a professional. It's an achievement I've wanted since I was a child. Now I shouldn't put too much pressure on myself; first and foremost, I need to get used to the level I'm at. I don't have particular expectations for my first year as a professional: I want to continue growing throughout the season and contribute to the team. I still have time ahead of me; I'm still far from reaching my full potential, but I've reached a level that allows me to have confidence in myself. Now I feel 100 percent ready to take the next step.»
