Etxeondo returns to dress Movistar and the past of Spanish cycling will come alive on the jerseys of 2027, as a relationship that had been interrupted at the end of 1992 is resumed.
After more than three decades, the historic Basque company resumes a collaboration born in the years of Reynolds and Banesto. The new design has not yet been unveiled, but inspiration already looks to the achievements of Delgado and Induráin.
There are jerseys that tell more than just a team: they preserve an era, its expectations and afternoons spent in front of the television. From 2027, Etxeondo will return to dress the Movistar Team, heir to the structure that was Reynolds and then Banesto. The graphics of the new kits remain to be discovered; the intention, however, is already clear: to interweave memory and technology for a new generation of riders. The collaboration will cover both the men's and women's teams.
The thread leads back to Pedro "Perico" Delgado and Miguel Induráin, protagonists of an unforgettable season. Delgado won the Tour de France in 1988 with Reynolds and the Vuelta in 1989; his first success in the Spanish race, in 1985, came instead with Seat-Orbea, a chapter not to be confused with the team's history. Induráin, with Banesto, claimed the first of his five consecutive Tours in 1991 and the Giro d'Italia with the Tour in 1992.
Those were years of distant attacks, without earpieces, when Spain followed its champions on the radio and in front of the screen. Cycling entered homes through climbs, breakaways and long waits: images that today survive in the company's archives and in the memory of those who saw those champions pedal in Reynolds and Banesto jerseys.
The story of Etxeondo begins far from the peloton. In 1976, Francisco Paco Rodrigo and María Jesús Uranga started their business in a farmhouse in Amasa-Villabona, in Gipuzkoa. They had trained at the Subijana textile factory, where they learned color, engraving and printing techniques linked to Parisian haute couture. The company's name came directly from the farmhouse that hosted the first workshop.
Years later, the return to Movistar, announced on October 26, 2026, has the flavor of an anniversary celebrated by returning to origins. The collaboration with the professional structure had begun in 1983 and ended in 1992: the new agreement reties that bond, but does not propose a simple replica of archived jerseys. Between the loose and comfortable kits of the Eighties and Nineties and today's garments lies a technical abyss. Materials, aerodynamics, fit and protection from weather conditions are now at the center of development work shared with the riders. The past will offer its colors and its memory; competition will offer its demands. The new graphics have not yet been presented. But the story has already begun: a Basque farmhouse, a team born as Reynolds and became Banesto, two champions who entered history and a brand that, in celebrating half a century of life, returns to stitch together different eras. On the jerseys of 2027, nostalgia will have to coexist with speed.
