Second final and second silver medal for Italy's team pursuit: Chiara Consonni, Elisa Balsamo, Martina Fidanza and Vittoria Guazzini tried to put pressure on the British riders Erin Boothman, Anna Morris, Millie Couzens and Josie Knight but had to concede with honour.

The Italian quartet got off to a very strong start, but midway through the race the British overtook them and literally opened the throttle, making the Italians' comeback attempt futile.

In the end the British finished in 4.04.610 while Italy stopped the clock at 4.09.967.

Bronze went to Germany with Brätigam, Brausse, Klein and Kröger (4.10.544) who just edged out the Netherlands' Veenhoven, Wiebes, Van Belle and Van Rooijen (4.10.803).
