The Tour de Langkawi has now become history, many races have been contested and others are scheduled, but there is a young man who remained in Malaysia and continues his fight in a Kuala Lumpur hospital.
It is Ronan Augé, a 22-year-old rider from a cycling family, racing for Unibet Rose Rockets, still hospitalized after the terrible crash he suffered during the fourth stage of the Malaysian race: Ronan crashed into a lamppost - forgive the bluntness of the verb, but there is no other word that can fully describe the scene - doctors kept him in an induced coma for five days and now he himself recounts his situation, sharing it through an Instagram post.«
«It is difficult to find the words to describe what has happened over the last few days... A few days ago, my life changed completely on the roads of the Tour de Langkawi. After a crash, several days in a coma and waking up in a Kuala Lumpur hospital, I am slowly beginning to understand what I have been through.
The list of injuries is long: seven fractures, including my tibia, ankle, cervical vertebrae, ribs, fingers and head, a pneumothorax, partial paralysis of my jaw... and so many other difficulties to overcome.
Despite everything, I have never been so happy to be alive. I am still in Kuala Lumpur and I know that the road to recovery will be long. Very long.
One thing is certain: I am not abandoning my dreams. I promise to give everything I have, to fight every single day and never stop believing.
I want to say an enormous thank you to Unibet Rose Rockets, everyone has been absolutely incredible in supporting me and standing by my family from the very beginning. I feel incredibly fortunate to have such fantastic people around me.
And to all of you... I have received thousands of messages since I crashed and I have read them all. Your words have touched me more than you can imagine and have given me so much strength. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. An enormous thank you also to all the medical teams and everyone who has supported me.
At this moment, my greatest victory is simply being alive. The road ahead will be long, but my story is not over yet. I will never give up.
