There are quite a few riders from WorldTour teams who don't yet have contracts, many of them risk retiring, and some are even seeking rather unusual solutions to make their voices heard.
This is the case, for example, of twenty-two-year-old Alexy Faure Prost, who raced this season for Team PicNic – PostNL and did not see his contract renewed.
A French rider who showed great promise and who in 2023, wearing the Circus Reuz jersey, the feeder team of Intermarché, had finished second at the Giro della Valle d'Aosta and fifth at the Giro Next Gen 2023. Unfortunately, in the two subsequent seasons wearing the Intermarché jersey and in this last one racing with Picnic PostNL, results and even encouraging performances did not materialize: in three years, not a single top-ten finish, regardless of the race's caliber. It's difficult to assess an athlete's performance from the outside, but certainly the absence of results doesn't work in his favor.
At a time of evident difficulty in finding a contract that would allow him to continue pursuing his dreams, Faure Prost sees his girlfriend Fanny step into the arena, entrusting Instagram with an unusual message: "Alexy, thank you for making us dream during these three years in the professional peloton. For making us travel to follow the most beautiful races in the world. There's only one step between being among the best in your category, being sought after by the biggest teams, and then being forgotten when you're even stronger than before.
The professional world unfortunately doesn't depend on the rider. Finding a contract or simply renewing it for one more year with the same team is becoming increasingly difficult, almost impossible. Because ending a professional career at 22 years old is not normal.
Behind all the training data, behind the money of a contract, there's always a human being and not a robot.
Who knows if one day professional sports will understand that taking young riders from the junior ranks to the highest level also means supporting them and not just sending them to race...
I sincerely hope that a team understands this message and that it's still too early to not show your talent. Remember that a cloud, even if big and dark, passes, and I promise you that we will always find the sun again".
