France confirms itself as Europe's best team in the mixed relay. Bruno Armirail, Rémi Cavagna, Thibault Guernalec, Juliette Berthet, Cédrine Kerbaol and Maeva Squiban won the continental title by completing the 44-kilometer time trial in 1h.00m.19s, beating by 1 minute and 12 seconds the Italian "train" composed of world champions Matteo Cattaneo, Matteo Sobrero, Elisa Longo Borghini and Monica Trinca Colonel with Marco Frigo and Alessia Vigilia. On the third step of the podium, the Luxembourg team finished the race with a gap of 3 minutes and 34 seconds from the winners.
A performance dominated by the French team, who pushed hard from the opening kilometers, passing the first two changeover points of the men's leg with approximately thirty seconds advantage over the Italians, who then reached the handover with a deficit of 24".
In the women's leg on the climb, Longo Borghini and Vigilia attempted to recover ground but could not match the blistering pace of the French athletes, who even caught up with the Polish team that had started four minutes ahead of them.
The Blue team thus achieves a double and adds this year's title to their trophy cabinet, while the Italian National team returns to the hotel with the silver medal, which adds to the gold conquered in the early afternoon in the Junior category. And tomorrow will be time for individual time trials.
