Exactly one week after the World Championships held in Canada, technical commissioner Roberto Amadio presents himself at the start with a competitive squad built around Giulio Ciccone (Lidl Trek), the reference man of the Italian National team and Italy's main card in the hunt for the European jersey. The Abruzzese will be able to count on the full support of his teammates, with the objective of arriving in the best possible condition at the decisive moment of the race and playing for the most prestigious result.

The Italian selection includes Ludovico Crescioli (Polti VisitMalta), Alessandro Fancellu (MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort), Marco Frigo (NSN Cycling Team), Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull BORA hansgrohe), Alessandro Pinarello (NSN Cycling Team), Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana) and Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana), an experienced and versatile group that offers various tactical solutions and will be able to support Ciccone in the most important phases of the competition. The Italian National team thus presents itself with important ambitions for a race that, as always, will award one of the most prestigious titles of the entire season and will see some of the best riders in the international cycling scene at the start.

Leading the opposition will be above all the Belgian Remco Evenepoel, one of the great favorites going into the race and eager to redeem the below-expectations performance at the recent Montreal World Championships.

France also promises to be highly competitive, able to count on three top-tier riders like Léo Bisiaux, Kévin Vauquelin and Romain Grégoire, riders capable of interpreting the race offensively and being protagonists on every terrain.

Great attention is also deserved by the home nation Slovenia, which places its hopes in the experience of Primoz Roglic and the emerging talent of Jakob Omrzel. Among the main candidates for a podium place are also the Spaniard Juan Ayuso, the Danes Mads Pedersen and Mikkel Honoré, the Swiss Marc Hirschi and Jan Christen, as well as the German Marco Brenner.

In the role of possible outsiders are the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov, the Czech Mathias Vacek, the Swede Jakob Söderqvist and the experienced Dutchman Wout Poels, athletes who could take advantage of a selective race to insert themselves into the fight for medals.

The Elite men's category race will be held over a total distance of 196 kilometers, divided into an initial straight section of 86 kilometers followed by five laps of the final circuit of 22 kilometers each. A total of 115 riders representing 30 nations will line up at the start.
