The most prestigious jersey in world cycling will make its debut at the Giro dell'Emilia Granarolo: UAE Team Emirates-XRG has officially confirmed Brandon McNulty's participation in the race organized by Gruppo Sportivo Emilia, scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd from Ferrara to Colle di San Luca in Bologna. And for the twenty-eight-year-old American, it will be a truly special appointment: the Giro dell'Emilia will represent his first race wearing the World Champion jersey.
McNulty claimed the world title last Sunday in Montreal, following a spectacular performance. The American attacked more than 30 kilometers from the finish and managed to hold off his pursuers, crossing the line ahead of Michael Matthews and Mathieu van der Poel. With this victory, he brought the Elite men's road world title back to the United States after 33 years.
A success that represents the pinnacle of a career that had already seen McNulty as a protagonist at the highest international levels. A professional since 2017 and with UAE Team Emirates-XRG since 2020, his palmares includes, among others, a stage at the Giro d'Italia, the GP de Montreal, the general classification of the Tour de Pologne, Tour de Luxembourg, CRO Race and Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, plus numerous victories in time trial events.
On Saturday, however, all eyes will be especially on that rainbow jersey making its first race appearance right on the roads of the Giro dell'Emilia.
A particularly significant presence also for Gruppo Sportivo Emilia and its president Adriano Amici, who in 2026 celebrates his fortieth edition of the Giro dell'Emilia as organizer.
Adriano Amici, President of GS Emilia: "Having the World Champion at the start is a great honor for us and, personally, also a great emotion. Brandon McNulty and UAE Team Emirates-XRG's choice to debut the rainbow jersey precisely at the Giro dell'Emilia represents an important recognition for our race, for its history and for the work we have been carrying out for many years. This year will be my fortieth edition of the Giro dell'Emilia as organizer and, honestly, I couldn't have imagined a more beautiful gift. Seeing the World Champion's jersey depart from Ferrara and tackle the slopes of San Luca will be an image that will remain in the history of our event which, over the last forty years, has seen world champions triumph on two occasions: Gianni Bugno in 1992 and Tadej Pogacar in 2024".
