Giulio Ciccone, ninth at the finish line, raced as a great captain of the Italian national team but on his face, alongside the fatigue, there is clear disappointment. We came here for something more, we tried to do everything at our best and I'd say we raced really well. On the last lap I had cramps, but despite that I tried to attack on the climb with Pidcock, but behind me we only had people thinking about closing gaps, without relaunching the attack. In the end I think I raced a great World Championships like my teammates, we did really well. McNulty's victory? We went very hard from far out, we spent a lot of energy, so in the final no one had any strength left: we knew there was the risk of a counterattack, and when the American attacked no one followed him. My job was to support Seixas, Del Toro and Evenepoel, then I realized that some of them had less left in the tank and I tried to make a move myself, but that's how it went."
