Give your all. Down to the last drop of sweat, the last pedal stroke, the last race of the season. Cristina Tonetti is like that, and she proved it again on Saturday by finishing eleventh at A Travers les Hauts de France and placing twelfth on Sunday at Choralis Fourmies Féminine: two near top-10 finishes after working for her teammates Sara Fiorin (eighth on Saturday) and Arianna Fidanza (ninth on Sunday).
Cristina will leave Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi and from next January will begin a new adventure with the French team St Michel - Preference Home - Auber93, but in these final stretches of the season she wants to give her best for the Basque squad. «I want to thank the team for these three years we've spent together, and doing it by helping my teammates and achieving good team results seems like the best way to do it», Tonetti said, reached by phone by tuttobiciweb in France.
The 24-year-old Lombard cyclist's season is winding down. «After wrapping up this weekend's races in France, I'll race the Grand Prix de Wallonie on Wednesday the 16th and then I'll close out the season and an important chapter of my career», Cristina told us.
Having joined Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi in 2024 from Top Girl Fassa Bortolo, Tonetti in her first season with the Basque team wore the polka dot jersey at the Tour de France Femmes; the following year she wore the leader's jersey for the sprint points at the UAE Tour but most importantly she raised her arms to the sky to celebrate her first professional victory at the Grote Prijs Yvonne Reynders and a few days later also climbed the podium at the Egmont Cycling Race Women alongside winner Martina Alzini and Lonneke Uneken.
Good performances and placements have not been lacking in this season either: from the narrowly missed podium in the opening stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Femenina to three top-15 finishes at the Giro d'Italia in the stages from Ravenna, Caorle and Brescello. To these results can be added the seventh and ninth place finishes achieved in the first two days of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas.
«In these years, thanks to Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi, I've grown. I had the opportunity to gain experience in races of the highest level and I also achieved personal satisfaction. For all of this I will always be grateful to the team», Cristina stated.
Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi also wanted to publicly express its gratitude to Cristina and in a post published recently on the team's official profile, wrote: «After three years and having covered many kilometers with her, Cristina Tonetti will begin a new chapter. Thank you for your commitment, your dedication and the way you lived every day with the team. Good luck, Cristina! Always one of us».
Now Cristina's focus is entirely on her last official commitment of the season, those 127 kilometers from Seraing to the Citadel of Namur where the Grand Prix de Wallonie will conclude. And then? «Then some rest, time spent with family, a few university exams and of course the bike. 2027 and the start of the new adventure with St Michel - Preference Home - Auber93 aren't that far away», Tonetti said.
A new challenge that Cristina will face always with a smile and always with maximum commitment. That's who she is.
