It has been talked about for weeks but now the decision seems to be made: Jonas Vingegaard will miss the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal and therefore his 2026 season can be considered concluded.
Vingegaard fractured his right collarbone after crashing during the 15th stage of the Tour and is not yet ready to return to competition.
According to reports from Belgian newspaper HLN and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Vingegaard will not start with Denmark's national team in the road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal on September 27th. An official update is expected next week, but both newspapers agree on the very slim chances of seeing the king of the Giro d'Italia in action again this season.
Vingegaard's last public appearance took place at the end of July in his hometown of Glyngøre during the Tour of Denmark: "I needed a break after the Tour. It has been a difficult year and a tough cycling race, so in any case I needed a break".
