Dutch bicycle manufacturer Accell, owner of brands such as  Batavus, Sparta, Babboe and Koga, was declared bankrupt on Tuesday by an Amsterdam court, according to a statement from the bankruptcy trustees. The bankruptcy raises uncertainties about the future of several well-known Dutch bicycle brands.

The Amsterdam court has declared the Dutch entities of Accell bankrupt. "Furthermore,  there is a complex situation within the European Accell group, with group companies in various countries that depend on each other operationally and financially in certain areas," the bankruptcy trustees wrote. "The trustees are aware that  the Hungarian facility has closed  and that insolvency proceedings have been initiated locally in several countries".
