Alessandro Romele has emerged from the first three stages of the Tour of Poland 2026 with outstanding performances. In the whirlwind of Polish sprint finishes, he delivered a perfect leadout for Matteo Malucelli in the second stage – which the Romagnolo closed in 3rd place – and then also made his own mark yesterday, finishing 3rd in Zielona Góra.

"Yesterday was another very good stage for Malucelli and to do good work for him," admitted the Bergamo native. "We talked at the end of the race and together decided that I should go for the sprint since his feeling wasn't optimal. So I took Milan's wheel and tried to give my best. I'm very happy with the result and the condition I've reached after all the altitude training. From tomorrow the harder stages begin and we're ready to help the team again".

When needed, therefore, he also knows how to throw himself into the fray, even though the work done in Szczecin suggests a rosy future for him as a leadout man as well. "I've always had in my skillset and characteristics the ability to give a good hand to sprinters," Romele explained further. "I'm getting along very well with Malucelli, I can only thank him because these are all experiences that help me grow and strengthen our understanding. Being able to become a good leadout man would certainly be a quality to hold onto".

XDS Astana is holding onto him tight, because wherever you put him, he fits right in. The reward, meanwhile, will come in the coming weeks. "I'll race the Vuelta a España, my first Grand Tour of my career. Hopefully my legs will be the same as these days, I'm curious to see how I'll manage".
