In the global landscape of endurance sports, for the past ten years no event has managed to combine spectacle, difficulty and allure quite like ICON Xtreme Triathlon. From September 2-5, Livigno will once again be the stage for the most extreme test of the XTRI World Tour, the prestigious international circuit that brings together the most iconic triathlons on the planet, from the mountains of Norway to the peaks of the Himalayas, passing through Canada, Brazil, Colombia, France, Australia and many other destinations where nature has imposed an extraordinary challenge on mankind. An atlas of the most authentic struggle, in which Livigno occupies an absolutely unique place: that of the competition which, more than any other, pushes the very concept of extreme triathlon toward its own limit. The race will start at dawn on Friday, September 4, but the entire week will guide athletes and support teams through a preparation journey built around physical, technical and mental readiness, including briefings, course reconnaissance, familiarization with the lake and moments of sharing, culminating in guided meditation on the eve of the start.
With its 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 195 of cycling and 42.2 of running, ICON represents much more than a race. It is a journey through some of Europe's most spectacular Alpine scenery, a route that takes athletes from the 1816 meters of Livigno to the 3000 meters of Carosello 3000, the highest finish line of the entire XTRI World Tour circuit. A challenge built around altitude, mountains and the ability to keep pushing forward, even when the body seems to have already exhausted every ounce of energy.
Each edition attracts athletes from around the world to Livigno, united by the search for something that transcends simple athletic performance, venturing into the realm of sports psychology and spirituality. To face ICON requires months of physical, technical and mental preparation, but also the constant presence of one's support team, which accompanies every competitor throughout the entire day, sharing in every difficulty and every achievement. It is precisely this relationship that makes ICON one of the most profound experiences of all: a test in which individual performance always emerges from a collective journey, made of trust, sacrifice and desire.
At dawn on September 4, once again, the start will already offer one of the most impactful moments of the entire experience. When darkness still envelops Lake Livigno, athletes will enter the water accompanied by the rhythm of drums and the reflections of flames on the lake's surface. An ancestral and powerful ritual, charged with emotion, suspended between silence and adrenaline, that marks the beginning of a day destined to remain etched in the memory of all who experience it.
