On Saturday, September 19, the Gran Premio del Lazio will be held, which recalls the traditional Giro del Lazio whose last edition dates back to 2014 (Valverde was the last winner) and which brings professional cyclists back to compete on the roads of our region.

The event is eagerly awaited by cycling enthusiasts from Lazio and throughout Italy and aims to revive the glory of a race that over the years has written truly significant pages in the history of cycling. In the past, athletes of the caliber of Gimondi, Moser, De Vlaeminck, Bugno, Fondriest, and Bettini have triumphed, to name just some of the most prestigious.

The start of the Gran Premio del Lazio will be given at 11:00 AM unofficially from Fiuggi. After the 8,500 meters of neutral transfer in the thermal town of Ciociaria, birthplace of former professional cyclist Valerio Agnoli and former striker Beppe Incocciati, the official start of the UCI 1.1 race will be at 11:20 AM from Ferentino, where the battle of the race will begin, inserted in the calendar of the Coppa Italia delle Regioni.

The 182.35 km race will finish in Anguillara Sabazia (pictured) after thirty spectacular and scenic kilometers on the roads that skirt the shores of Lake Bracciano. A race designed on a flat route suited for sprinters, who will compete after the efforts of the Giro d'Abruzzo and in preparation for the Giro della Campania. The relocation of the finish, initially planned for Rome, was decided by the organizers in agreement with law enforcement to avoid overlap with the Roma-Inter football match (scheduled for the same day at 6:00 PM in the capital).

In any case, beyond the technical value of the event, the Gran Premio del Lazio has been designed to highlight and promote some of the most beautiful locations in the territory, in the provinces of Frosinone, Rome, and Viterbo. In addition to Fiuggi, Ferentino, and Anguillara, these include Anagni, Fumone, Piglio, Serrone, Paliano, Genazzano, Cave, Palestrina, Gallicano, Tivoli, Guidonia Montecelio, Sant'Angelo Romano, Fonte Nuova, Mentana, Monterotondo, Capena, Castelnuovo di Porto, Riano, Morlupo, Magliano, Nepi, Sacrofano, Campagnano, Trevignano, and Bracciano.

The event will be organized with the support of the Lazio Region and Sport e Salute, who believed in the revival of the project, enthusiastically embraced by Terenzi Sport Events, by Sport e Salute Councilor Maria Spena, head of the event's promotional committee, and by Lazio Region Councilor Giorgio Simeoni, with the contribution of the FCI and Lega Ciclismo Professionistico.
