A major bicycle theft was carried out at the Memorial Nonna Gina, held on Sunday in Vallese di Oppeano, where Elia Viviani grew up, in the Verona area. The haul consists of twelve bicycles: they were in cars and vans parked just a few meters from the stage that were broken into by the thieves. It should be noted that the bikes all belong to the athletes (and their families).

The theft was carried out around 1 p.m. during the awards ceremony. While athletes, parents and team officials were following the ceremony for the Esordienti and Allievi categories, the thieves acted quickly, breaking into the vehicles and stealing bicycles worth thousands of euros.

The staff members of the Sossano team were the first to notice. But after checking the other vehicles, the total rose to 12 bicycles. Among the victims is also a young athlete from Gs Monselice, who had a white 2025 Pinarello F5 stolen. The bicycle was on the car's bike rack secured with a padlock, but even this precaution did not deter the thieves.

A parent from Montagnana was also hit, with two children registered respectively with Infocars Este and Sossano, who had both of his bicycles stolen.

Also targeted was the van belonging to the Mincio Chiese team, which won the Esordienti category race with Giulio Zunica: three bicycles belonging to the young riders from the Lombard team were stolen, while two others belonged to registered members of Tavo Vigodarzere (in the photo, one of the bikes).

The total value of the haul amounts to several tens of thousands of euros. Carabinieri arrived at the scene to conduct the investigation.
