While acknowledging that we do not yet have all the details regarding recent events concerning night-time controls, we wish to clarify our position and indicate what, in our view, should be the true subject of debate.
The MPCC was founded on two fundamental principles: to reduce the grey areas that could undermine confidence in cycling and to strengthen anti-doping systems to better protect the integrity of this sport.
The history of cycling has demonstrated that weaknesses and gaps in anti-doping and whereabouts systems can be exploited. It is therefore essential to identify where these vulnerabilities may exist, in order to propose adequate measures to eliminate them. More broadly, it is on this challenge that we should focus our attention.
Our responsibility is to keep attention high on these issues and to support the development of solid, credible anti-doping systems capable of protecting "clean" athletes and the integrity of our sport. Cycling must continue to learn from the lessons of its past to best protect its future.
