1: WÆRENSKJOLD OPENS HIS ACCOUNT
Winner with an unusual sprint on the roads of Nevers, Søren Wærenskjold has unlocked his counter at the Tour de France! The imposing sprinter from Uno-X Mobility has climbed one by one onto all the podium steps since last year. The sprinter finished 3rd in Lille, in the first stage of the 2025 edition, before finishing 2nd in Bordeaux this year, at the end of the seventh day.

50.910: NEW RECORD AVERAGE
From the very first stage of 1903, won by Maurice Garin after almost 18 hours of effort between Paris and Lyon (467 km covered at an average speed of 26.304 km/h), the evolution of speed has been constant at the Tour de France, until reaching 50.910 km/h between Vichy and Nevers, a new record set over a relatively short distance (161.3 km) and with favorable wind. The 45 km/h barrier had already been broken in 1935. In 1974, Eddy Merckx accelerated to over 48 km/h during a half-stage of 112.5 km towards Orléans, on the eve of his fifth triumph in Paris. The Tour peloton then exceeded the 50 km/h speed limit in 1999, on the road to Blois with Cipollini (194.5 km). Last year, Tim Merlier was the second man to exceed an average speed of 50 km/h (50.013 km/h over 174.1 km between Chinon and Châteauroux), before Søren Wærenskjold in Nevers. The 51 km/h speed limit is approaching.

9: FROM LAST IN CLASS TO THE TOP STEP
175th. That's how Søren Wærenskjold placed himself on Tuesday, at the finish in Lioran. Dead last, more than 41 minutes behind winner Tadej Pogacar, partly due to a crash, the Norwegian completely reversed his fortunes in Nevers. By winning yesterday, the sprinter became the ninth rider in Tour history to achieve such a performance, succeeding Caleb Ewan. The Australian, in front of the broom wagon in Nice during the second stage of the 2020 edition, raised his arms the next day in Sisteron, once again at the end of a group sprint. Before them, René Le Grèves (1935), Maurice Blomme (1950), Roger Hassenforder (1956), Guy Ignolin (1961), Raymond Delisle, Pierre Matignon (1969) and Régis Clère (1987) had managed it.

21: THE VIKINGS TAKE CENTER STAGE AT THE TOUR
By winning in Nevers, Søren Wærenskjold has given Norway its 21st stage victory at the Tour de France. The Uno-X Mobility sprinter is the seventh rider from the Scandinavian country to raise his arms on the Grande Boucle and succeeds his teammate Jonas Abrahamsen, winner of last year's eleventh stage in Toulouse. He is also the fourth Norwegian to win a group sprint, after Thor Hushovd, his current general manager who has won 5, Edvald Boasson Hagen (1) and Alexander Kristoff (4).

2: UNO-X, WHAT A DOUBLE
Uno-X Mobility could hardly have dreamed of a better Tour de France. After two days in yellow for Torstein Træen in the first week, the Scandinavian team has achieved its second victory in its history at the Grande Boucle, one year after Jonas Abrahamsen's victory in Toulouse. A remarkable performance, especially considering that the team composed exclusively of Norwegians and Danes participated in its first Tour in... 2023.

21: A RAINBOW IN YELLOW
Meanwhile, Tadej Pogacar maintains the yellow jersey as leader of the general classification, the 61st of his career. Third rider in this classification, the Slovenian has also "covered" his rainbow jersey as world champion with yellow for the twenty-first time. This allows him to surpass Bernard Hinault (20) and approach the absolute record held by Eddy Merckx (27). If he were to keep the jersey until then, Pogacar could surpass "The Cannibal" in the 18th stage between Voiron and Orcières-Merlette.

100: UNCLE SAM CAN STILL WAIT
It will be necessary to wait at least another day to find a representative of the United States as a stage winner. Yesterday in Nevers, Brandon McNulty signed the best result achieved by the USA, at a respectable distance from the winner (41st). The land of Uncle Sam has not won on the roads of the Tour de France since Sepp Kuss's success in Andorra la Vella, on the 15th day of the 2021 edition. This represents a drought of 100 stages. In addition to McNulty and Quinn Simmons, 2nd in Foix in the fourth stage, the United States can count on Sean Quinn, Matthew Riccitello, Matteo Jorgenson and Sepp Kuss to unlock the success counter in the coming days.
