A road tragedy with circumstances still unclear. Alessandro Magnani, the 41-year-old from Correggio who was hit by singer Paolo Belli on a bicycle on Monday around noon, has died just hours after being hospitalized.
Magnani was walking to reach his car after delivering a notice when he collided with Paolo Belli on a bicycle. The man fell to the ground and his condition appeared immediately very serious: transported by helicopter to Parma's Maggiore Hospital, he died yesterday in the late afternoon in the intensive care unit.
Paolo Belli suffered physical trauma judged to be minor, but was nonetheless monitored by medical personnel and then taken by ambulance to the emergency room in Guastalla for a check-up due—as reported by Il Resto del Carlino—mainly to the stress and worry about the pedestrian's condition, which had appeared desperate from the start.
"Let me know how that man is doing. How can I find out about his condition?" the singer and television host continued to repeat to the rescue workers: even in the hours that followed, discharged and back home, Belli continued to ask for news about the 41-year-old.
The exact causes of Magnani's death are still to be established. The effects of a head trauma sustained in the fall after the collision with the cyclist are suspected. However, it is also not ruled out that the 41-year-old may have been struck by a sudden serious medical emergency in the moments immediately preceding the impact with the bicycle. This would also explain the fact that Magnani did not notice the cyclist's arrival, who was traveling at low speed, and that he made no attempt whatsoever to protect himself or avoid the impact.
