Creating a real symbiosis between paralympic activity and traditional youth cycling: this is the objective of the path initiated by the Lombardy Regional Committee, led by vice-president Cinzia Ghisellini with Roberta Amadeo of the National Paralympic Commission, and by grassroots clubs committed to promoting the movement. At this stage, three clubs are the protagonists: SC Rescaldinese, SC Saronnese and a pool of Como-area clubs, which have chosen to take charge of organizing races reserved for the Youngest category, integrating paralympic events into a single sporting framework.
The first stage took place in Rescaldina, counting as the 1st Proof Team Relay Cup – Lombardy Regional Committee, attracting 170 children from the Promotional, G1, G2, G3 categories and paralympic athletes competing in the relay. An event experienced "in unison", appreciated and applauded by the public that filled the race area.
The president of Rescaldinese, Osvaldo Forlani, recounts the atmosphere and does not hide his satisfaction:
«It was an incredible emotion, an unexpected but gratifying success. Enthusiasts, parents, passersby and the organizers themselves experienced a special day. Bringing these young people together on the same stage is a choice to pursue with dedication and passion. These people deserve to be rewarded, giving them the values they deserve. As president of Rescaldinese, I can say it was a wonderful day of sport».
A strong signal that confirms how sharing the same spaces, the same rhythms and the same values can become a driver of growth for the entire Lombardy cycling movement.
Roberta Amadeo of the National Paralympic Commission shares the same view:
«I would say good start: excellent participation and, above all, great involvement from everyone. The young athletes were enthusiastic about this new format, which we hope has set a line to follow and improve over time. Paralympic and non-disabled athletes shared the stage, highlighting a lively and authentic participation, worthy of the expectations and attention dedicated to the project».
The path will continue with the second appointment on October 11th in Saronno, organized by SC Saronnese, while the closing celebration is scheduled for October 25th in Brenna, in the Como area. The closing event will be organized thanks to the joint commitment of Alzate Brianza System Cars, Bee And Bike di Bregnano and Asd 2x2 Team Brenna, organizations that have chosen to support and enhance this new movement shared between paralympic and traditional youth activities.
