The last time we made it up there was in 2022 when, thanks to our friend from Cuneo, Fabio Pellegrino, and the French municipality of Château Queyras-Ville Vieille, a plaque was placed on the rock, right there, next to that stretch of asphalt where Michele on May 27, 2016 came to a stop, putting his foot on the ground. Ten years have passed since that day. Ten grueling years, all uphill, to reach an impossible yet rightful goal, like that of peace on the road, true safety, for everyone.
Five of us are leaving from Filottrano this morning: myself; Ercole, Fabrizio, Giorgio, Bruno and other residents of Filottrano will join us Saturday evening in Sampeyre to complete the final stage together to Risoul. Our parents will come and many friends will join us along the route. It will be an intense week in which we will remember Michele kilometer after kilometer and it will be an important opportunity to put our feet on the ground together against road violence.
First stage, Monday, July 6: Filottrano-Cesenatico, where at the Pantani Space, at 6 PM, we will meet the Pantani Foundation, the Mayor of Cesenatico and the Fausto Coppi Sports Association.
Tuesday, July 7 we will depart from Cesenatico to reach other friends, those of the Sanctuary Circuit in Zola Predosa, passing through Piazza Maggiore in Bologna.
Wednesday, July 8 from Bologna we will move to Parma, climbing the Canossa climb, where there is a statue dedicated to Michele, and in Parma we will be welcomed by the local Fiab and the mayor.
Thursday, July 9 we will pedal towards the roads of the legendary Fausto Coppi, arriving in Tortona.
Friday, July 10 the finish line is the city of Alba, Saturday Sampeyre after passing through Cuneo.
Then the queen stage: from Sampeyre to Risoul, Sunday, July 12, crossing the Agnello Pass and feet on the ground next to the plaque rock. The rock of feet on the ground.
What matters is not to forget and to pedal together for a new road. What matters is that each of our efforts is shared as a group. What matters is to say thank you to Michele and to all the emotions he gave us. What matters is to recognize ourselves on the same road, on the same bicycle.
Come meet us, join us or push us forward, but above all, don't forget that you are part of a group: Michele's infinite group.
