Like the great champions, Luca Guercilena is leaving after a victory (with Lidl-Trek on Saturday he celebrated Jonathan Milan's Italian national championship success), but he is already ready for a new challenge. We had anticipated this at the beginning of June, when the American team had announced that the Milan-based manager would leave the team at the end of the Tour de France, and he himself gave us more than one spoiler just a few days ago, but today the news is officially confirmed.
RCS Sport has announced that, starting from September 1st, Luca Guercilena will have overall responsibility for the cycling division regarding both the organization of races and the management of all related logistical operations.
Paolo Bellino, Chief Executive Officer and General Director of RCS Sports & Events, stated: "Luca Guercilena's arrival represents a strategic step for strengthening the cycling division of our group. His expertise, combined with his deep knowledge of the international cycling movement, will enable us to make a further leap in quality both on the organizational level and in future development. We are confident that his contribution will be decisive in consolidating our role as a reference point in world cycling".
Luca Guercilena, for his part, commented: "I am proud to join RCS Sport at a moment of great evolution for cycling. It is an exciting challenge that I face with great motivation and sense of responsibility. The objective will be to further enhance the skills already present, strengthen dialogue with institutions and teams, and contribute to the development of new international projects, bringing cycling to ever higher levels".
