The Team Jayco AlUla will line up at the start of the Tour de France in Barcelona with a roster ready to compete on all fronts.
The team will have a strong Australian imprint, with five riders out of eight coming from that distant land. Tour de France stage winners Michael Matthews and Ben O'Connor will lead the formation, with the objective of increasing their tally of victories at the Tour.
Team Jayco AlUla at Tour de France 2026:
Pascal Ackermann (GER) - 3rd participation
Luke Durbridge (AUS) - 12th participation
Felix Engelhardt (GER) - Debut
Kelland O'Brien (AUS) - Debut
Ben O'Connor (AUS) - 5th participation
Michael Matthews (AUS) - 9th participation
Luke Plapp (AUS) - 2nd participation
Mauro Schmid (SUI) - 2nd participation
Australian core
Matthews has four Tour de France stage victories and a green jersey to his name and will be more determined than ever in 2026, after missing last year's edition due to illness.
O'Connor triumphed in the queen stage of the Tour in 2025, proving his worth in the most important race on the calendar with two stage victories and a fourth-place finish in the general classification.
Luke Plapp, winner of a stage at the Giro d'Italia, hopes to add a Tour de France stage victory to his palmares following his debut last year.
Aggressive style
The attacking specialist Mauro Schmid will seek to continue his successful season and finally secure the coveted Tour stage victory that narrowly eluded him in the eleventh stage last year. The Swiss multi-champion has had an impressive first half of the season with three victories and the overall title at Coppi e Bartali, along with numerous podium finishes.
Debutants
In addition to the roster of experienced riders, the team fields two Tour de France debutants: Olympic champion Kelland O'Brien and versatile German Felix Engelhardt. Both riders boast experience in the Grand Tours, with numerous participations at the Vuelta and Giro, and this year have earned their place in the Tour squad. Engelhardt has proven to be a rider suited to all terrains, as confirmed by his excellent mountain performance at the recent Tour Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes, and he holds his own in bunch sprints.
O'Brien will bring considerable power to the team: the Olympic champion in team pursuit is destined to play a key role in the team time trial of the opening stage in Barcelona.
Experienced elements
German sprinter Pascal Ackermann will give the team opportunities in the final sprints: he boasts five victories in seven Grand Tours contested and will lead the team in bunch finishes.
Completing the squad will be road captain Luke Durbridge, starting his twelfth and final Tour de France. A key member of the race's "engine," the thirty-five-year-old Australian will be invaluable in guiding his teammates during the three weeks of racing, as well as in the team time trial on day one.
The voices
Michael Matthews: «If you had told me three months ago that I would be competing in the Tour de France, I wouldn't have believed it. I've worked hard to get back in time for the Tour, together with the team, and I can't wait to be racing again. After missing last year's edition due to illness and after this year's crash, I have even more motivation and desire to win. The Tour is the most important race of the year and, even though this will be my ninth participation, being selected is always a great achievement. I think we have a really strong team and now I can't wait to line up at the start with the guys in Barcelona. Starting with a team time trial is a special way to kick off a Grand Tour, I hope we can get off to a good start and build momentum as we progress through the race».
Mat Hayman (Sporting Director): «We have a very strong and complete team for this Tour de France. We have Pascal for the sprints and then many riders with stage opportunities, both in the medium and high mountains. It's really exciting to have a couple of riders starting their first Tour de France, like Kelland and Felix: it's a huge step for their careers. On the other hand, there's Luke Durbridge, who returns for his twelfth Tour, a true pillar of the team and someone we can always count on. There's a strong Australian presence with Ben returning after a stage victory last year. Michael Matthews has battled an injury to be ready to tackle the Tour, which has been really impressive. Then we have Plapp, who won a stage at the Giro and would like to add another at the Tour de France. Completing the team is Mauro Schmid, we hope he can return from the weekend still wearing the Swiss champion's colors».
Gene Bates (Performance Manager): «We are really excited about the team we have assembled for the Tour de France, a roster capable of competing in every stage of the three weeks, from the flat stages for sprinters to the high mountain stages. It's always a challenge to assemble a team for the most important race on the calendar, you have to make important decisions, but we believe that, thanks to the work of the performance team and sporting directors, we have selected a truly competitive team. As an Australian team, we are proud to have a solid core of Australian riders among the eight participants, as we look ahead to our 15th Tour de France as an organization.»
