The Tour de Suisse closed in the same way it opened, with Tadej Pogacar's victory, who claimed both the fifth stage of the Swiss race and the final classification. The world champion was the protagonist of an incredible final climb in which he caught one by one all the members of the day's breakaway, the last being Lenny Martinez approximately 900 meters from the finish line. It's yet another display of power from the Slovenian who won 3 of the five stages on the program in Switzerland, and is now ready to race the Tour de France as the absolute favorite.

THE RACE. Fifth and final day for the Tour de Suisse, which today presented the queen stage. Start and finish in Villars sur Ollon, 150.7 km with a total of 4,226 meters of elevation gain. Three laps of 50 km each with the triple ascent of the Col de La Croix and the final climb to the finish.

The first part of the race was characterized by a breakaway of 11 riders: Afonso Eulalio and Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious), Andrew August (Net Company Ineos), Bauke Mollema (Lidl Trek), Nairo Quintana (Team Movistar), Finn Fisher Black (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe), Louis Vervaeke (Soudal Quickstep), Mauro Schmid and Paul Double (Jayco Alula), Mattia Gaffuri (PicNic PostNL), Bart Lemmen (Team Visma Lease a Bike). The group was pulled for many kilometers by UAE Team Emirates XRG, which kept the escapees under control, who were unable to gain more than 2'20" of advantage.

At the start of the final lap, 8 riders remained: Martinez, Mollema, Quintana, Fisher Black, Vervaeke, Schmid, Lemmen, and Gaffuri, who tried to hold firm against the advancing group, in which Decathlon CMA took responsibility for setting the pace. At the front of the race, right at the start of the final climb, Bart Lemmen was the first to make his move, taking Nairo Quintana and Lenny Martinez with him. Meanwhile, behind them in the group, it took very little time to witness Tadej Pogacar's explosive attack, which in an instant created a gap behind him. The Slovenian's climb was truly incredible, and one by one he recovered all the members of the day's breakaway. The last to resist the attack was Lenny Martinez, who was caught approximately 900 meters from the finish. Third place on the day went to Bart Lemmen.

Tadej Pogacar claims his thirteenth victory of the season and adds the Tour de Suisse to his already impressive collection. The podium of the Swiss race is completed by Richard Carapaz and Mathias Vacek.
