If yesterday's performance had raised some doubts, today Jhonatan Narvaez did not waste the opportunity and won the third stage of the Tour de Suisse, starting from Bad Ragaz with 157.9 km to cover. The Ecuadorian from UAE Emirates XRG was the protagonist of the day's action alongside Xandro Meurisse (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team). The two managed to resist all the way to the finish line against a chasing group that had given them too much space and moved at the wrong moment, coming close to catching the leaders on the final straight, with Magnus Cort controlling the main peloton.
Tadej Pogacar retains the yellow jersey as race leader.
THE RACE. The first breakaway attempt - featuring Sander De Pestel (Decathlon CMA CGM Team), Lorenzo Germani (Groupama FDJ United), Axel Laurence (Netcompany INEOS), Sam Oomen (Lidl-Trek), Louis Vervaeke (Soudal Quick Step), Simon Dalby (Uno-X Mobility) and Marco Brenner (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) - launched on the descent of Sankt Luzisteig Pass.
It was then Finn Fisher-Black and Aleksandr Vlasov (Red Bull BORA hansgrohe) who first bridged to the leaders, followed shortly after by Enric Mas (Movistar Team), while Jhonatan Narvaez (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Jan Hirt (NSN Cycling Team), Paul Double (Team Jayco AlUla) and Louis Barré (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) also joined.
After their move was neutralized, Tadej Pogacar made his move and set up the attack for Jhonatan Narvaez, Michal Kwiatkowski (Netcompany INEOS) and Xandro Meurisse (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team). While the Pole dropped back early, Narvaez and Meurisse accelerated and increased their advantage.
Behind them, a counterattack was launched - but without success - by Emiel Verstrynge (Alpecin Premier Tech), Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious), Ewen Costiou (Groupama FDJ United), Michał Kwiatkowski (Netcompany INEOS), Aleksandr Vlasov (Red Bull BORA hansgrohe), Maximilian Schachmann (Soudal Quick Step), Simon Dalby (Uno-X Mobility) and Marco Brenner (Tudor Pro Cycling Team). They remained exposed for many kilometers without gaining anything because then, 40 kilometers from the finish, many teams started working to chase down the two leaders. A chase that, as mentioned, came too late and did not produce the desired results.
