Farewell to Father Claudio Moser, a Franciscan friar native of Palù di Giovo, who for many years was dedicated to pastoral care for Italian emigrants in North America. He was 87 years old. After his solemn profession in 1960, he was ordained a priest on July 14, 1963. Fra Claudio was the brother of Francesco Moser.
From 1969 onwards, his mission was carried out predominantly among Italian emigrants in Canada and the United States. First in Boston and subsequently in Toronto, Fra Claudio dedicated himself to the pastoral and social assistance of communities of Italian origin, becoming a point of reference for many families far from their homeland.
During his long ministry in Canada, through the parish of St. Peter in Toronto, he also promoted important welfare initiatives in the Dominican Republic in favor of Haitian immigrants employed in sugar cane plantations. A commitment directed especially towards the poorest, with educational and health projects designed to support people forced to live in conditions of severe social marginalization.
After more than fifty years spent abroad, in May 2024 he returned to Italy, living in the infirmary of the friars in Trento where he passed away at dawn on Friday, May 22.
The funeral rite will be celebrated in Palù di Giovo on Monday, May 25 at 3 p.m. in the parish church, while the recitation of the Holy Rosary is scheduled for Sunday evening at 8 p.m.
Our deepest condolences to the entire Moser family.
