SOUDAL QUICK-STEP. 8. Seven top-ten finishes, two stage wins with one of this Giro's great revelations, Paul Magnier: there's little to say about Davide Bramati's squad for now. At the moment, what they'd need is a rider a bit higher up in the general classification: Filippo Zana and perhaps Gianmarco Garofoli could climb the standings, meanwhile they're moving fast with the sprinter and battling with Raccagni Noviero (excellent), Van Gestel and Stuyven. Nine days of magnificent racing.
DECATHLON CMA CGM TEAM. 8. They're racing like a great team, because they are a great team: always. They're here to win and keep Felix Gall at the top of the general classification: for now everything is going wonderfully. Five top-ten finishes and a second place in the general classification for Felix.
NSN CYCLING TEAM. 6.5. Four top-ten finishes, one with our Pinarello and a Jan Hirt who quietly and steadily is up there in the higher zones of the classification (12th). A Giro, for now, without praise and without blame. Attentive and willing, now let's see if they'll take flight.
LIDL-TREK. 5.5. They fought like few others, so much so that they collected eight top-ten finishes, but with Milan only finishes, just like with Giulio Ciccone. Cicco got the satisfaction of wearing the pink jersey which he then took off immediately. They're here to make the general classification with Derek Gee, but at the moment the Canadian is 14th, a bit behind.
EF EDUCATION EASY-POST. 6.5. Beloki is a step away from the top ten, meanwhile they've taken five steps into the top ten. They're here with a B team, but they're clearly honoring the race.
TEAM POLTI VISITMALTA. 7. Crescioli and Lonardi brought home two top-ten finishes, the team showed itself to the world with great consistency. Ludovico Crescioli is clearly one of the most interesting faces of this Giro. He's already under observation: we'll see him again.
TEAM JAYCO ALULA. 6. They wouldn't have even moved badly, quite the opposite. They also lost two important pieces of their puzzle: Vendrame and Engelhardt. In any case, four top-ten finishes and an O'Connor who is still there, in the top ten (8th).
XDS ASTANA TEAM. 9. Two stage wins with Thomas Silva and Davide Ballerini. One day in pink, ten top-ten finishes, battling every day. The reference team so far, but given how the start has been, it can only end well. They'll entertain us.
TUDOR PRO CYCLING TEAM. 8.5. Matteo Tosatto preaches attention and consistency: they are attentive and consistent. Seven top-ten finishes and two men in the top ten. One is Mathys Rondel, a genuine French revelation of this early Giro who is 7th in the general classification, and the other is Storer, who knows how it's done and indeed is already there, in tenth position. The old and the young, holding hands, with Matteo Tosatto preaching attention and consistency: they are attentive and consistent. They will be tomorrow too.
RED BULL BORA HANSGROHE. 7.5. Four top-ten finishes, but it's also true that they gave their all. Everything can be said about Pomer's squad, but not that they didn't give their soul. It's no coincidence that Hindley is there, in 4th place in the general classification, and that our Pellizzari is currently 9th. Giulio also has a bit of discomfort, not from racing the Giro, but stomach-wise. Let's hope the nasty virus isn't too bad and from tomorrow it's just a bad memory.
UNO X MOBILITY. 6.5. Six top-ten finishes, a race from born attackers, tough and tireless. They're here to try to win a stage and they came close. They'll try again!
UAE EMIRATES. 9. Devastated after just one day, where they lose their general classification man (Adam Yates), his right-hand man (Soler) and another man who could have made the general classification (Vine). In short, it couldn't have started worse. They, however, continue undeterred by everything and everyone: three stage wins, to console themselves a little. Knowing them, they'll keep going consoling themselves.
UNIBET ROSE ROCKETS. 5.5. Two small finishes with Groenewegen and Poels. Bad luck for a team that for now is not quite on point.
BARDIANI CSF 7 SABER. 7.5. They're working hard (three top-ten finishes): anything but token breakaways, they worthily represent our movement and what's to come. An attacking squad, led by a Tarozzi who never holds back: he attacks.
MOVISTAR TEAM. 6.5. Perhaps they collected less than what they did, but overall they deserve applause. Mas is a total and absolute disappointment, but they don't feel sorry for themselves and decide to race their own race. Milesi superb, Lopez deserves applause.
NETCOMPANY INEOS. 6.5. A shrewd and concrete team. Some good finishes and an Aresman who doesn't dazzle, but doesn't get dazzled either.
BAHRAIN VICTORIUS. 9. Franco Pellizotti guides his Afonso Elualio in the pink jersey. A team that loses Buitrago right away, but doesn't lose its compass: quite the opposite. Caruso is there, with a bottle in hand, ready to motivate everyone. He even makes bets about his contract renewal. The way things are going, he should be renewed on trust, especially since he dispenses it to everyone.
LOTTO INTERMARCHÉ. 5. One small finish with Van Eetvelt. For now, very little: for everyone.
ALPECIN PREMIER TECH. 4. They lost Groves who could have done something in the sprint. They bring home only one top-ten finish. In the special team classification they're last: no need to say more.
TEAM PICNIC POSTNL. 4. One finish with Van Uden and nothing more. For now, they came to Italy just to have a picnic.
VISMA LEASE A BIKE. 10. They're racing with disarming clarity. Total control of the race, doing just what's necessary to be there. The pink jersey is within reach, although I wouldn't be surprised if even in the time trial Vinge decided not to overdo it, surgically leaving the jersey to Eulalio, so as to allow himself another week without stress and to make one more friend (Bahrain) with an eye on the Tour. Conspiracy theory? I'd say stringent logic. Meanwhile, four top-ten finishes, with two wins with those aiming for the final victory and the advance of Piganzoli and Kuss.
GROUPAMA – FDJ UNITED. 5. They have all their riders, no withdrawals, but at the moment not even one top-ten finish. The best placed is the young man – he's 25 years old – Joshua Kench: 29th in the general classification almost a quarter of an hour back.
PINARELLO Q36.5. 5.5. Bad luck never ends: first with Matteo Moschetti, lost right away and who in the sprint would have guaranteed some finishes (at the moment none in the top ten). Then the distraction of Fabio Christen, who crashes badly and breaks his collarbone. Two serious losses, the first much more so. Now there's climbing back up the hill, but with Harper and De la Cruz you can.
