UAE Emirates XRG, in today's crash, is certainly the team that paid the highest price. Vine and Soler ended up in the hospital, while Yates crossed the finish line suffering and with a bloodied face. Among the riders who hit the ground was also Antonio Morgado, the Portuguese rider from the Emirati team, who despite bruises and abrasions, managed to cross the finish line. «Everyone knew that sooner or later someone would crash on this asphalt – Morgado said after the finish – It seems bad luck was on our side today».
The images showed a tangle of bikes and suffering riders on the ground. Some were taken to the hospital for checks and medical treatment, while others managed to cross the finish line. «The road was completely slippery, everyone knew that, which is why there was so much fighting to get ahead. We came out of the turn and we crashed».
At the moment it is not known what injuries most of the riders sustained and perhaps Antonio Morgado is one of those who suffered the least damage. UAE lost two men, Vine and Soler, and Yates, the team's classification leader, arrived with a significant time loss and clear signs of the crash visible on his body.
«I don't know what my teammates did to themselves. There was chaos and you couldn't understand anything and we only thought about getting back up and continuing. Even I feel a bit sore after the crash, but we have to move forward and we won't give up».
