Jonas Vingegaard and his teammates at Visma Lease a Bike have chosen to start the Giro d'Italia with a small but decidedly significant gesture.
A nail painted red to support Børns Vilkår, a Danish organization committed to raising public awareness about physical and psychological violence against minors. The campaign focuses on the message that too many children grow up in conditions of insecurity.
Vingegaard leveraged the visibility of the Giro to help draw attention to this issue. "One in six children suffers physical or psychological abuse - the Danish cyclist explained in a message posted on social media -. We want to fight against all of this, because every child deserves to grow up in good conditions".
The campaign has received support from several prominent Danish personalities, who have painted one of their nails red to draw attention to a truly important issue. A small gesture to achieve a great goal.
