Lidl-Trek announced today its roster for the Giro d'Italia, warning its rivals that it is "cooking up" a truly delicious dish.
At the helm for the 109th edition will be Jonathan Milan, who sprint after sprint will aim for the points classification after last year's green jersey at the Tour de France and the cyclamen jerseys he brought home in 2023 and 2024, and Giulio Ciccone, who after much misfortune accumulated on the pink roads is targeting stage wins and, if possible, a strong showing in the general classification.
Alongside them will be two other precious Italian riders such as Simone Consonni, Milan's last man for the sprints, and Matteo Sobrero, who will look to perform well in the only time trial on the program and will be a flatland rider who can make the difference when it comes to closing down breakaways.
Completing the roster, announced in a charming way with graphics featuring coffee, gelato and typical Italian dishes like the unmissable arrosticini for Abruzzese Ciccone, Luca Guercilena's team fields Canadian Derek Gee-West, last year fourth in the general classification, Eritrean Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier, young German Tim Torn Teutenberg and his more experienced compatriot Max Walscheid.
The Giro starts on Saturday from Bulgaria with Milan and Lidl-Trek aiming straight for the first pink jersey on offer. As they say, a rich plate... I'm diving in!
