The fifth edition of the The Best of Cycling photography exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Forte di Bard, on the eve of the start of the 109th edition of the Giro d'Italia, which returns this year to traverse the roads of the Aosta Valley.
In the Scuderie halls, around sixty images will be displayed until July 26, 2026 selected from those that participated in the competition organized by Roberto Bettini, the dean of cycling photographers. The exhibition is curated by Federico Bona, a journalist from Ivrea who has worked for years with the Giro d'Italia organization.
The Best of Cycling competition has reached its ninth edition, maintaining the spirit and level of the inaugural edition in 2017. Every year Roberto Bettini involves colleagues from around the world to create a collection of images (strictly referring to the past season) that tell the most important events and niche stories, the Grand Tours and small local races, road, track and gravel cycling, cycling for men, women, boys and girls. The jury—composed of Lido Andreella, photographer and organizer of the International Photography Festival Dia sotto le Stelle and the Busto Arsizio Photo Contest, Enrico Della Casa, president of the European Cycling Union, Ornella Badery, president of Forte di Bard, Ettore Giovannelli, journalist for Rai Sport, and Davide Cassani, former athlete and president of Apt Emilia-Romagna—selected the best from over 150 photos in the competition.
This year's winner is a young Italian photographer, Sara Cavallini, with a shot that, thanks to black and white technique, makes the panorama of the Crete Senesi crossed by the group during the Strade Bianche Women even more evocative. Second place went to Belgian Stijn Bastens, who managed to capture the enthusiasm of fans, beer in hand, cheering for Matthieu van der Poel. Third place was awarded to Dutch photographer Joris Knapen's shot, taken during a stage of the Giro d'Italia, between the niches of a doorway. The photograph by Gian Mattia D'Alberto, depicting Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, symbol of the 2025 cycling season worldwide, celebrating his fifth victory at the Giro di Lombardia, could only be the iconic image to launch this new edition of the exhibition, the fifth, like Pogačar's victories in the "Classica delle foglie morte".
