A serious blow could fall (also) on the world of sport. The situation of the women's WorldTour team Canyon//SRAM Zondacrypto appears to be complicated by the judicial proceedings involving one of its main sponsors. Zondacrypto, a cryptocurrency exchange platform, is indeed at the center of an investigation opened by Polish authorities, with possible repercussions also in the world of international cycling.
The brand not only appears on the jerseys of the team that includes top athletes such as Katarzyna Niewiadoma, who was on the podium at Liege-Bastogne-Liege yesterday, and Italian riders Chiara Consonni and Soraya Paladin, but is also among the major partners of the Tour of Switzerland 2026 and in recent editions has been a prominent presence at the Giro d'Italia.
According to reports from the French channel BFMTV, Poland has launched a judicial investigation into Zondacrypto, one of the country's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, with accusations of fraud and money laundering. Polish Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek stated that authorities are receiving a growing number of complaints from citizens who are unable to withdraw their funds from the platform. The regional prosecutor's office in Katowice has estimated the total damage at no less than 350 million zloty, equivalent to approximately 83 million euros. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that as many as 30,000 people could have been victims of the company, registered in Estonia.
The investigation has taken on significant political dimensions: according to a report by The Insider, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has spoken openly about possible attempts to interfere in elections through hidden financing and the use of illicit funds. At the center of the case is the collapse of the platform, which would no longer have been able to reimburse numerous investors. Further critical details emerge from the disappearance of the founder, Przemysław Kral. For now, neither the Canyon//SRAM Zondacrypto team nor the organizers of the Tour of Switzerland have released official statements on the matter.
Meanwhile, the brand maintains a significant presence in Italian sport as well: it is in fact an official partner of Serie A clubs such as Atalanta, Parma, and Bologna. In the past, it has supported Juventus and, as mentioned, both the men's and women's Giro d'Italia.
