Matteo Trentin was the victim of a serious crash approximately forty kilometers from the finish of the Tour of Flanders: the Italian veteran went down into a roadside ditch shortly after cresting the Koppenberg together with Magnus Sheffield and Sam Watson (Ineos Grenadiers) and other riders while he was in a chase group behind the leading contenders. Team Tudor has just confirmed that Trentin, regularly finishing in the top-10 in the classics at 36 and a half years old, has fractured his right collarbone and will be operated on tonight at Herentals hospital.
