In his fourth race of his first season with Ineos-Grenadiers, Dorian Godon has scored twice. First in Tuesday's team time trial, then today in the penultimate stage of the Paris-Nice, shortened twice due to bad weather: cold and snow. A stage of just 47 kilometers and a winning sprint for the Frenchman ahead of Girmay and Bol.
"The greatest pleasure of a victory at Paris-Nice is the satisfaction you give yourself - explains Godon, 29, who in 2025 won the Coppa Bernocchi in Legnano when he was racing for Decathlon - For me it was like that: I would never have thought of winning a mountain stage in this race, but it was the right week. We stayed super focused waiting for the Jury's decisions, we were in excellent form and everyone was motivated, and that's what made the difference".
Then the account of the finale: "I felt like I was sitting on the couch, the guys were incredible and this was ultimately a stage suited to me, with a finish that really suited me. Yesterday, joking around, I said that maybe today would be my day. And so it was...".
The added value of Godon's success is the French national champion's jersey he wears on his shoulders: "I'm in the Tour de France group and we're improving day by day, also in terms of communication and teamwork. This is a team where everyone gives 200% for each other. Here it's fantastic, there's no stress at all, everyone is incredibly supportive and gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Honestly, I already felt part of the team and I was really happy to race, and that's how we started the year. All of this gives me an extra boost, I'm part of one of the most important teams in the world and winning in this race is fantastic. It's an excellent start to the season and I'm incredibly happy".
