Thibau Nys has successfully undergone surgery for iliotibial band syndrome affecting his left knee. The Belgian rider from Lidl Trek had been experiencing recurring knee pain due to a previous trauma, and the recent discomfort felt during training sessions ultimately led to the decision to proceed with surgical intervention.
Thibau was operated on at Herentals Hospital, where he underwent a partial iliotibial band release. The procedure was successful and Thibau has already returned home to begin his recovery.
At least three and a half weeks of rest will be necessary before he can resume training, and the date of his return to competition will be communicated in due course as his recovery progresses. Inevitably, his participation in the 2026 Giro d'Italia, which was announced at the beginning of the season, is now in serious jeopardy.
