He hadn't won since March of last year, he had come close many times, but today Erlend Blikra finally managed to return to success. It was a powerful sprint for the Norwegian from Team Uno X, who beat Emmanuel Houcou and Sebastian Molano. Good fifth place for Stefano Oldani.
THE RACE. Fourth unprecedented stage for the Tour of Oman, which for the traditional sprinters' day followed the coast from the picturesque Al Sawadi Beach to Sohar. 146 km without major difficulties, but with the uncertainty of wind and especially sand, which had caused two massive crashes just yesterday.
The start was at high speed and many athletes immediately tried to escape from the group. Warre Vangheluwe (Soudal QuickStep) and Patryk Goszczurry (Visma Lease a Bike), the leader of the most combative classification, succeeded. The two breakaway riders reached a maximum advantage of 2'30" while the group completely let them go, keeping the situation under control.
The group came back together 2.5 km from the finish line, and the fight for positions to take the two elbow curves in the last 2 km immediately began. The Uno X team managed to position their sprinter in the best possible position, and so Blikra only had to finalize the team's work.
No changes in the general classification, which still sees Mauro Schmid in first place, but tomorrow the Green Mountain climb with its almost 6 km at 10% awaits the group, and everything could change.
